Job Summary:
The Financial Analyst provides analysis and advisory support to the organization, as well as serves as a backup to other members of the Finance team, while reporting to the CFO. The primary role of the Financial Analyst is financial analysis, advising, training, and projections related to significant financial matters and investments that support the mission of Milwaukee Habitat.
Responsibilities:
Financial Modeling / Analysis
- Develop reports from accounting software using reporting tools and advanced Excel analysis techniques, to provide guidance to Finance staff to help them meet reporting needs in an effective and efficient manner.
- Provide analytical support and assist the CFO with the development of the annual budget. Perform periodic variance analyses to explain material variances and collaborate with staff to resolve issues and identify opportunities.
- Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasts to project future financial performance of key divisions and programs.
- Assist CFO with the development of periodic balance sheet and cash flow projections, to inform business decisions and mitigate financial risk. Advise on liquidity measures and investments to maximize returns within risk guidelines. Monitor and measure risk related to contingent liabilities to facilitate long-term strategic planning.
- Using available data and trend analysis, develop financial models including sensitivity analysis, efficiency/profitability analysis and make recommendations to management. Such models might include future real estate development, construction, and land acquisition analyses, first mortgage and subsidy analyses, home construction costs, program and fundraising costs, etc.
Project Management
- Develop construction cost model to analyze work in process vs budget vs project completion status.
- Assist with analysis and accounting related to New Markets Tax Credit and TID transactions.
- Conduct data analysis and support for financial audits.
- Complete other project work under the direction of the CFO.
Accounting / Other
- Assist Controller with monthly reconciliations and month-end close.
- Serve as primary backup to other Finance functions, specifically Accounts Payables and Receivables, Payroll, and General Ledger maintenance.
- Be a resource to assist other team members with report development and related analyses.
- Other projects as assigned and suitable for skills and the organization's needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Superior accuracy, detail orientation, and thoroughness
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting
- A minimum of 5-7 years’ related experience demonstrating skills in financial analysis and reporting
- Relevant experience using QuickBooks or similar accounting systems
- Experience with Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel proficiency
- Preferred familiarity with non-profit Accounting/Finance
