The Residential Designer plays a critical role in Milwaukee Habitat's mission to provide affordable housing solutions by developing accurate, code-compliant, and buildable design and construction documents for new builds, rehabilitations, and multi-family housing projects. In addition to technical drafting and design responsibilities, the Designer supports project planning, field collaboration, and stakeholder engagement to ensure homes are high-quality, sustainable, and tailored to homeowner and community needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Drafting
Produce complete architectural design documents for single-family housing.
Create and revise site plans, floor plans, elevations, wall panel drawings, building sections, and construction details.
Prepare permit-ready construction documents and ensure energy code compliance.
Update plans as needed based on construction feedback, regulatory changes, or homeowner customization.
Monitor design progress and update project timelines.
Coordinate with construction managers, volunteers, city permitting offices, and partner organizations to ensure project alignment.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Drafting or Architectural Design Certificate from an accredited institution.
Minimum 2 years of experience in residential design.
Proficiency in architectural drafting software (AutoCAD)
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in structural, architectural, and/or residential design.
Experience with new construction and rehabilitation projects.
Familiarity with affordable housing, urban infill, or energy-efficient design principles.
