Job summary

The Homeowner Eligibility Specialist plays a critical role in Milwaukee Habitat's mission to provide affordable housing solutions by reviewing and processing homeownership applications and documentation. The Homeowner Eligibility Specialist is responsible for maintaining communication with the applicant throughout the review,  which includes explaining program guidelines to candidates, requesting additional documentation when needed, following up on application status, etc.  

Key Responsibilities:

Review of homeownership applications and supporting documentation. 

Verify program guidelines are met based on income, employment history, credit, and assets.

Represent MHFH at community meetings, partner events/fairs for recruitment to help maintain the pipeline of applicants.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Capable of reading and analyzing credit reports.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of Fair Housing laws.

Strong communication skills: ability to deliver difficult or sensitive information with clarity, empathy, and professionalism.


Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite & Google Workspace

Familiarity with CRM software: Salesforce

Expertise in credit, debt, and financial management, including budgeting/savings strategies

Experience calculating debt-to-income ratios
